Louisville is home to many cultural events occurring every year. The most well-known is certainly the Kentucky Derby, held annually during the first Saturday of May.
In addition to the horse race, during late February and early March you can catch the Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville, an internationally acclaimed new-play festival home to almost two dozen distilleries. The city is also famous for its bourbon, offering over two dozen distilleries in the area. Many are located outside of the city, but you will be able to check out the Evan Williams distillery within the city.
Furthermore, there are plenty of critically acclaimed restaurants to dine, such as Decca and Proof on Main, as well as interesting concept shops (Please & Thank You, Scout) and a hipster flea market to check out as well.
